Transparency In Coverage: BBC Benefits Co. Employee Benefit Plan
Federal regulations known as the Transparency in Coverage Rule require the BBC Benefits Co. Employee Benefit Plan (the “BBC Plan”) to make certain machine-readable data files (“MRFs”) available to the public. The MRFs provide medical plan pricing information including information regarding in-network rates for covered items and services and out-of-network allowed amounts and billed charges for covered items and services.
MRFs for the medical plan options offered under the BBC Plan are maintained by and hosted on the website of Independence Blue Cross, the third-party administrator of those plan options. To find and download those MRFs, please click here. That link will take you to a Table of Contents file for the BBC Plan that contains links to both the in network and out-of-network MRFs.
Important information about protections against surprise medical bills: Beginning January 1, 2022, if you are enrolled in one of the medical plan options under the BBC Plan, when you get emergency care or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, you are protected from balance billing. In these cases, you shouldn’t be charged more than your plan’s copayments, coinsurance and/or deductible. You can find more information about these protections here.
